Why go on a pilgrimage?

Yes, what has been attracting so many people since the Middle Ages to set out on the path again and again in different ways? This is one of the questions that the guests at the Pilgrim's Coffee in the evening ask themselves and, above all, the pilgrim pastor Frank Karpa, who has come all the way from Hamburg. He will take us on an imaginary journey through his pilgrimage tours. And in this experience, the individual aspects become visible. It is the inner desires that are often so hidden that they only become apparent on the way, such as being able to experience silence. In today's noisy world, there are hardly any places where we are not constantly accompanied by the sounds of work, our surroundings, the infrastructure and the media. Away from everyday life, on the path through the vastness of nature, it becomes quieter and peace can be enjoyed. This gives you the leisure to let your thoughts come to rest.

As the pilgrim pastor describes it, walking makes us aware that there is an echo within us, which usually begins in our feet when we feel the road or the path. There is suddenly a resonance between the person on the path and the surroundings, the narrower and wider cosmos. The experience: “I am” and next to it “I am a part of everything” allows spirituality. Some people unexpectedly come across God while searching for themselves. Pilgrimages break up everyday life and provide space for encounters in a variety of forms.

The pilgrimage routes in the Nordvorpommern region ensure that you don't necessarily have to travel to Spain, but can start right on your doorstep. In addition to the Via Baltica and the Birgitten Trail, there is also the Gryphon Pilgrimage Trail. Starting from the pilgrimage church of St. Ewald in Bodtstedt, this invites you to experience the miracle oak, the lesser spotted eagle trail or the pilgrimage church in Kenz with the Gesundbrunnen. As a pilgrim guide, Wolfgang Drews introduces the various stages of the trail, which are particularly suitable for beginners to gain initial experience. Some guests already bring these with them and share them with the others in the subsequent coffee and discussion group. We then say goodbye: “Bon Camino - see you on the way”.

To ensure that the community of pilgrims continues to grow, the next pilgrims' coffee in the evening will take place in the fall.

A big thank you to our pilgrim pastor of the North Church Frank Karpa, to Doreen Habermann and of course to the whole team of the Bible Center for the preparation and realization of this wonderful evening.
